Instructor: Gabrielle Arianela Gumbs
With a B.S. degree in Kinesiology, the study of movement and an emphasis in Athletic Therapy, Oceanside native, Gabrielle Gumbs is a multi-talented business woman and performer who understands how the female body works and how to make it move beautifully, sensually and with confidence.
Arriving in LA just two weeks after the devastating 1994 earthquake to pursue an acting career, it was Gabrielle’s background in Movement & Sports Medicine that earned her acclaim as one of the premiere Pole Dancing and Striptease instructors in Hollywood and around the world. Ladies have come from as far as London & Singapore to train with her.
Laura Henry, Gabrielle’s renowned acting coach, made attending pole dancing and striptease classes a mandatory part of her acting class curriculum for women. Henry believed learning this sensual movement would rid her female students of any and all inhibitions. Henry not only wanted to challenge her student’s comfort zone, she also wanted to prepare them to handle any role they auditioned for. “It was Laura’s desire to make sure no matter what type of script we were handed, from sexy siren to victim, we wouldn’t allow our hang-ups from low self esteem, body issues or sexuality keep us from being completely open to any roles.”
As terrified as Gabrielle was to be completely vulnerable, “Plus I had to strip in front of a bunch of women,” she showed up to the pole dancing class as instructed. By the end of the first session, Gabrielle was hooked! She not only loved the workout, she saw how freeing, empowering and therapeutic it was for her emotionally.
So what do you do with a degree in movement? Gabrielle wanted to teach women how to move of course, how to make their bodies stronger and she wanted to help them walk with confidence in their sexuality…in their womanhood.
Working side-by- side with Sheila Kelly of S-Factor fame helped Gabrielle achieve her goal of becoming an instructor. Gabrielle was instrumental in helping Sheila launch her first S-Factor studio. During that time was when Gabrielle realized she had a natural flair with pole dancing, teaching and business. After adding a little of her Panamanian flamboyance and her Kinesiology education, she developed her own style and Gabrielle’s style was a hit! With a growing clientele, she soon opened her own school, Aphrodite Strip~N~Pole, Vixen School of Hypnotics!
As an instructor, Gabrielle loves watching the metamorphosis of her clients as they go through their own private journey in her classes. She has been seen on Oprah, Playboy Radio’s ‘Night Calls’, BET's 'Hell Date', Vh-1’s-‘Rock Bodies’, Inside Edition, Univision’s –‘Control’, MTV's - 'Why Can't I Be You', Q-Television's - 'On Q Live' as well as in ‘Woman’s Own’ Magazine, Teeze Magazine and The Campus Circle Newspaper.
